Mixed Media Vintage Canvas

Good afternoon,

Today I want to share with you a little mixed media canvas I created this past week with a little step  by step process.

Let's start with this canvas then!........

I started with a 5x7 inch canvas

I used 3 different stencils with white sand texture paste......

adding patches with each stencil randomly over the canvas.

I used this lovely chipboard piece from Dusty Attic and painted it with gesso.

I chose 3 Prima  Color Bloom sprays to use on the canvas background

I started with the lightest, Tea Stain, then a touch of Sunshine and finished with the darkest, Antique Gold. Allow to run and wash over the texture paste and canvas and dry in between each colour application

On the dry chipboard piece I rubbed some Inka Gold with my finger around al the edges.

I added a pretty piece of lace down the left long side and then adhered the chipboard piece over the top.

From the packaging of the Prima butterflies  I cut a circle big enough to fit my circle on the chipboard.  I inked the edge of the circle with distress ink.

My main embellishments were now added, the butterfly and the Prima Resin piece, which I have also rubbed over the high edges with the Inka gold.

I used the 'make art' words from Wycnanka. these I painted with some brown acrylic paint

I added a metal corner piece ......

Now its gets fun adding the smaller details...... the painted chippie words, a metal pair of scissors.
I also added some grouped Prima pearls.

I then had fun with the micro beads. I dabbed the gel medium where I wanted the micro beads and then dropped them into it! These add wonderful detail, texture and shine!

The finishing touch was the addition of the Viva Precious Metal colour. This is the most gorgeous paint, so sparkly and just like liquid gold! Love it!
Using a paint brush I brushed it over the edges of the canvas and some of the embellishments just to add a little extra sparkle!

So here are the finished close ups of the project...

Sketch challenge at Swirlydoos

Hello all,

When I first saw Kim's gorgeous sketch for the July Sketch challenge at Swirlydoos Kit Club I knew I had to do it! And I enjoyed every minute of doing it!
My mojo has been a bit lacking lately but this sketch really got the brain cogs working again and filled me with inspiration!

Here's my layout!

and here's the sketch.....

No automatic alt text available.

Here are some close ups and details........

The colours for the layout were inspired from the pretty autumn vines in the background draping over the wood panelled chair. Using the pink from DD's top and the dark tones from DS's top and the background wood colours as my highlight colours. The layout is created on a Blue Fern Studio paper from the Blush collection.

I love using mixed media in all my projects, as I mentioned earlier my mojo had been taking a vacation lately but my love of mixed media got me thinking again with this layout and I wanted to try and do something a little different.

I started my layout with a stencil and some Viva Inka Gold ( in the photo below)

When the Inka Gold was dry I dabbed over my Flitter Glu in patches on the gold and then applied the gilding flake. when I rubbed of the excess it left a lovely mottled coloured effect. I used a flake from Indigo Blue called Lancashire Rose which had gold and red tones in it. See below.... yummy!

I arranged the design of the ephemera pieces and my photo next to get the general shape of the design I wanted to match the sketch. I inked most of the edges either with Vintage Photo or Rusty Hinge ink.

Covering up the photo, I splattered the layout with 2 colours of mist, a rose coloured one and an orange one. Next was die cutting the leaves. I used several different types and each on a different colour cardstock/PP. I inked some edges to make them more dimensional and poked these into the design. I also used a burlap sheet (its backed with thin cardboard and goes through a die cutting machine) to create some leaves with a different texture.

I used a few pretty bicoloured pink tones flowers to highlight the pink top of DD.
Other little details added then were the buttons threaded up and then some straggly ends of thread winding their way through the clusters.

The  title is a laser cut thin chipboard piece from Wycinanka. I simply spritzed it with the rose/rouge mist.

I then finished of by using the 2 mists as washes with a paint brush and blending them around the immediate design coming out from underneath the photo layers to really make the design 'pop'.

Lets Get Sketchy

Hello all, its time the mid month challenge at Lets Get Sketchy!

Here is my DT layout for the August 15th challenge...

And here is the sketch and mood board for this months challenge... for the girls!....

my layout was inspired the pinks, blues, white and touch of green and the balloons.

Here are some close ups....

This photos shows the flower die I used, unfortunately I don't know the brand. I layered it up and then kept it in place with a brad. I have used lots of colourful paper layers using the My Minds Eye papers under my photo matching the colours from the background Prima paper.

The opposite corner has another layered die  flower with  brad making a cluster with the pink sprig and leafy die cut set on the doily background.

I used a Prima stencil in the background with the distress grit. the red Magnolia flowers add the 'pop' factor to the clusters.

The wood word is simply painted with gesso. On the background I used splats of mist.

I adore this photo, such cuteness! My DD all sleepy on my lap cuddling up with one of my besties Jack Russell dogs who also wanted cuddles.
This is one of the few photos that also contains 'pinky' bunny, Holly's faithful bedtime cuddly toy whom has been there since day one and still is! And looking still slightly pink unlike the grey version he is now!

* Prima Marketing: Devine: Couplet
* My Minds Eye: Collectable: memorable "journey"
* My Minds Eye: unforgettable: "today"

* Dovecraft: doily
